Most tips can be found in the many walk-throughs available online. We use those found at GameFAQ.com. Occasionally, we come up with something that we have not seen online - those are documented here.

The 7 Dragons War - At least that is what I liked to call it - and this is probably the biggest tip that I came up with for Dragon Quest VIII - and I have not seen this anywhere online.

When you go to fight the 7 dragons - for each dragon, you first have to fight that boss guy - what's his name - anyway - the first thing he wants to cast is a spell that takes the hero out of the fight - to counter that, the first thing you should do is bring in one of your monster teams. Once the boss has cast that spell once for each battle, he will not cast it again. The spell has no effect on the monster team - so once you are past that point in the battle, release the monster team and kill the sucker - then of course he turns into one of the dragons.

There are 7 dragons too - once you fight him 6 times - during which he turns into one of six different dragons - then you have to fight all 6 dragons in a row - after that you will fight the 7th dragon.
